Car Travel Kit from the AA

Posted by caroline  Published in Automotive, Travel & leisure accessories

While browsing for online products of appeal, I came across what the AA describe as its must have Euro Travel Kit.

When planninig to travel in Europe, it is so easy to overlook some essentials for the journey. As I know to my cost.I have arrived at Dover for the ferry to Calais only to experience the dawning realisation that when I reach France there will be strict regulations in force and some strong recommendations to note, which I would not normally have to concern myself with in the UK. But what are they? And how do I ensure that I will be able to comply?

Now you will not have to scrabble around at the very last minute, and pay a premium price, for the items to put together in a ‘kit’ to see you through. AA have thoughtfully brought out a neat package of the essentials (and some extras for good measure) in its AA Euro Travel Kit. The kit contains the key accessories for driving in Europe (although additional items maybe required by specific countries), and comprises:

Hazard Warning Triangle
A must in case of road side emergency or breakdown. Conforming to European Standard ECE R27,this is easy to use and is highly effective.
Headlamp Beam Converter

Avoid dazzling drivers on the left side with the lights on your right hand drive vehicle. A legal requirement to drive in Europe.
Magnetic GB plate
If a GB sign is not shown on your number plate, you must show a GB sign on the rear of of your vehicle. This is easily done with a fully magnetic plate which can be quickly removed when you return home
AA Driving in Europe
This simple guidebook gives you the essential knowledge for driving in each European country. The information includes speed limits, motorway regulations, documents you should have with you, distance charts, key road signs, embassies, bank opening hours, and much more.
Reflective Emergency jacket
Keep safe in the event of an emergency stop by the roadside. You will be seen more easily by other road users. In some EU countries the carrying of such a jacket is a requirement and not merely recommendation.
AA Glovebox Atlas Europe
A comprehensive road atlas covering every EU country. It is wiro bound for ease of use,and has a 8100 place name index.

With this package also comes the opportunity to save £10 on Euro Travel Breakdown cover.

Finally, do remember that it is the responsibility of the person(s) travelling in Europe by vehicle to ensure all legal requirements are met.

All the above is brought together in a tidy package and at £39.99 represents excellent value in cost saving (having to buy several items separately) ,and in time saving. You can travel easier in mind, also, that you have the knowledge to help you travel in Europe legally(and avoid possible on-the-spot fines), and more safely.

DAB Car radios for a digital future of sound quality

Posted by caroline  Published in Automotive, Travel & leisure accessories

DAB offers drivers greater sound quality, and a wider range of stations, over traditional AM and FM broadcasting which can blighted by interference.

Now,Ford have introduced Sony DAB systems for the first time in the model range, providing the same listening quality in the car as benefits listeners of DAB at home. Though other models will soon have the DAB option for buyers,at the moment the option is only available for the Ford FOcus,Ford C-climax, and the Ford Kuga.

The cost of the DAB system option is £300, according to media reports. Try the Ford website for further details.

If you can’t wait for Ford to extend the option to cover other cars in its range you prefer,or you prefer to convert to DAB on your current vehicle, or indeed a model of another make, then you need not do so. At getdab you can learn more about coverage and reception, and buy an in-car converter kit .

In the spotlight a car torch bright light and ready to go

Posted by caroline  Published in Travel & leisure accessories

You’re in your car and everything is dark.In one small part of your mobile cocoon, there is a welcome glow from your torch for all occasions. A comfort item, ready to provide a light into your gloomiest corners and recesses. This is the spotlight for your emergencies, and is shockproof, and waterproof. If you have a cigarette lighter socket, where this can be quietly stored, then this could be for you. This unit little larger than a car cigarette lighter, comes in five colours: titanium, blue, orange, red and black. This is a little TLC for you, never mind your car.

If this unobtrusive, but immensely useful accessory is for you ,it is not expensive, and it costs nothing to ‘nip’ over to the firebox site.

Power in Your Pocket with the Freeloader Energy Charger

Posted by caroline  Published in Travel & leisure accessories

What do you do when you have no power? You are out on the road, and one ,or more, of the accessories of life (the iPod, mobile phone, SPS ,and so on) is out of ‘juice’.

You know you intended to recharge everything before you left the house. But you were distracted, busy with other things,or whatever. If these gadgets did run out of power, what then? With probably no ready supply of power to recharge your stuff,it’s at worst a bit desperate,at best downright frustrating and infuriating.

This is where the Free…Loader Portable Solar Energy Charger comes in.

This gift, about the size of a mobile phone , can be silently soaking up the sun in a convenient corner in your car as you drive, glove shelf perhaps, or elsewhere and when loaded it can deliver the power ,for example, required for upto 44 hours for the mobile phone, and for the PDA upto 22 hours. The FreeLoader comes in two colours pink and silver (but not green,I’m afraid, as it is already considered green enough!), and is supplied with a variety of gadgets.
And,here’s the clever part, though not quite as green, if the sun is not out there are two more options to use this recharger. Firstly, you can USB the charger to your computer.Or,secondly, you can simply put in some batteries and recharge from the charger that way. All options make the FreeLoader a very portable asset. At £29.95 this travel kit could be an essential for motorists. For further details you can go to the Fireboxwebsite>

Car travel & leisure accessories: travel far, travel safe

Posted by caroline  Published in Automotive, Travel & leisure accessories

Planning a long car journey? Then you will want some travel and leisure accessories. Some accessories we will otherwise not think about until we need them;others we would find useful, make our travel more comfortable, interesting, secure.

For a range of desirable ,or must have, items have a look in at the DCP store here.Direct Car Parts Small Logo

Some ideas may help you. For example, make dry, curling sandwiches, warm fizzy or still drinks, and molten chocolate bars squelching in their wrappers a thing of the past, with a small car fridge or cooler.Or,make that step to protect your family with a decent first aid kit. Often something we are least concerned about when all is well. Another item , essential for dog owners, is an easily installed and well made and secure dog guard, keeping all the family happy and safe.

Some ideas then ahead of that journey or, even, for making daily driving better and more secure. Direct Car Parts Small Logo
